For Jennifer Palmer being there for her family was the incentive she needed to go after the life she long dreamed of. Jennifer, a resident of Independence, Kansas, turned to The Center for Bariatrics at Bailey Medical Center in Owasso to make her dream a reality*.
“I was tired of trying every new fad diet with little to no success,” says Jennifer. “I was just plain sick and tired of being "sick and tired."”
Jennifer had struggled with obesity since entering adulthood. As a result, her weight presented various health challenges.
“All that weight wears a person out; I was exhausted all the time,” says Jennifer. “I had two hernia surgeries and was told my obesity could cause another one.”
The state of her health also affected the health of her family. Jennifer’s father, who suffers from diabetes, is on dialysis for 12 hours everyday. He is in need of a kidney transplant and has been on the list to receive one for the past three years.
“I was not able to try to donate my kidney to him because I was obese,” says Jennifer.
In addition to Jennifer’s desire to help her father, it was a specific experience that confirmed her discussion to pursue bariatric surgery.
“I was heading to watch my son play basketball and was walking up the stadium stairs to my seat. By the time I got to my seat I was tired and out of breath,” explained Jennifer.
It was then she knew something had to be done, so she reached out to the Center for Bariatrics at Bailey Medical Center. Jennifer soon became a candidate for bariatric surgery and the process began*.
“It was all so worth it,” says Jennifer “Before and after surgery, I had people helping me prepare for my new life. The surgery was only part of the puzzle*. I had to learn to eat differently, cope with life issues differently and incorporate a new lifestyle*.”
Bariatric surgery and lifestyle changes helped Jennifer lose 125 pounds and improve her health*. This has allowed her to take part in the process of donating a kidney to her father. Furthermore, Jennifer is living the life she always wanted*.
“Life after surgery is wonderful and exciting*! I have so much energy and more stamina than I’ve ever had*. To sum it all up, I can live life now*,” exclaims Jennifer.“This surgery changed my life for the better, and it can for you, too*!”
