Classes
Protein Supplements
Instructors: Dietitian and Psychologist
Dietitian:
Looking at all of the protein supplements on a shelf can feel overwhelming. This class is here to help you learn what to look for in choosing a protein product, why they are important, tips for use and sampling some popular products.
Psychologist:
You will learn how following your post-op guidelines can help you reduce emotional cravings for tempting foods and help you feel more in control of your emotions. You will also learn behavioral strategies to help you stay on track in areas of your post-op health (i.e., nutrition, hydration, movement, sleep, coping). Come prepared to take notes!

Dietitian:
This class will help take a look at mindful and intuitive eating techniques, why food logging is important in the post-op journey and how to move toward healthier choices on a day-to-day basis. After attending this class, you will be able to determine areas of improvement in your own bariatric journey and how to move forward.
Psychologist:
The psychology of what motivates you to follow your post-op program will be explored. You will learn how to have self-compassion and how to get back on track when you fall off the wagon. Be prepared to learn and how to forgive yourself.

Grocery Shopping

Unsure of which labels you should be buying more of or avoiding? Join one of our classes and we can help you look at products together. Here you will be able to gain the knowledge needed to make healthy choices at the store as well as some tips for planning grocery store trips.
Psychologist:
Time management and mindfulness are two essential behavioral skills to have. In this class, you will learn strategies to better help manage your time, followed by a meditation activity instructed by Dr. Wood. Be prepared for a relaxing activity.

Life on the Go

Dietitian:
Learn how to navigate life on the go by learning tips on how to choose bariatric friendly options when living a busy lifestyle. This class will prepare you to feel confident with making healthy choices at places you encounter in your daily life like gas stations, shopping centers and fast-food restaurants.
Psychologist:
In this class we will explore healthy coping mechanisms and what makes it so difficult when trying to make beneficial choices. You will learn a cognitive muscle building strategy to help you keep your portions small and your brain in charge. Be prepared to think outside of the box!

Learn how to make bariatric friendly meals the whole family can enjoy! In this class you will learn recipes and substitutions for common ingredients to help make meals healthier and more bariatric friendly.
Psychologist:
In this class Dr. Wood will explain ‘what’s the buzz about alcohol’ as we explore psychological risk factors of alcohol consumption after bariatric surgery. Behavioral strategies for navigating cocktail pushers and “FOMO” (fear of missing out) will be discussed. Be prepared for some sobering statistics.

Healthy Holidays

Discover new tips and tricks to navigating holiday meals and gatherings. This class will provide you with examples, learn new recipes and help you enjoy the holidays while learning to maintain your bariatric lifestyle.
Psychologist:
As you prepare for the holidays you may be thinking about who you will see, what they will think about your changes and what you will tell them about your new life. This class will help you identify who you can turn to for support and practice role playing how to ask for help and how to respond to questions from family and friends.
