Changes can be hard and rewarding all at the same time. That is why at The Center for Bariatrics at Bailey Medical Center we provide you with the opportunity to learn about challenges you may face with experts like physicians, dietitians and psychologists. Our staff’s goal is to help you discover a healthy lifestyle by sharing several tips and tricks across various class topics (listed below).

This class will help explore the psychology and nutrition of your post-op journey and how to make healthier choices for your mind and body on a day-to-day basis. Topics you can expect to cover include:

• Practice self-compassion

We are here to change the perception of carbohydrates! In this class you will learn how this food group can be used to optimize your nutrition. Dr. Jenny Wood will discuss the following topics:

• Emotional and/or stress eating
• Strategies to break the cycle of using food for emotional satisfaction
• Healthy ways to cope

Description:

Join us for a class to help prepare you for the summer months! Each season brings with it a new round of gatherings with family and friends, and memories to cherish forever. Don’t let your bariatric journey hinder your fun. In this class, you will learn some new healthy recipes that everyone can enjoy, and also talk about body image with Dr. Jenny Wood and the psychological impact of it during this life changing process. Participants are encouraged to bring a recent photograph (print or digital) to the session you sign up for. The photo will be for personal use only, you will not be asked to show it to others.

Fun with Fitness & Fluids

Description:

Hydration can be tricky! In this class, you will learn how to properly hydrate and understand the role of fluids in your physical performance and why they are important. In addition, our exercise specialist, Mo Smith, will help with teaching some stretches and provide you with various ideas for outdoor activities.

Life on the Go

Description:

Learn how to navigate life on the go by learning tips on how to choose bariatric friendly options when living a busy lifestyle. This class will prepare you to feel confident with making healthy choices at places you encounter in your daily life like gas stations, shopping centers and fast-food restaurants.

 

In this class we will explore healthy coping mechanisms and what makes it so difficult when trying to make beneficial choices. You will learn a cognitive muscle building strategy to help you keep your portions small and your brain in charge. Be prepared to think outside of the box!

Tailgate Cooking

Description:

Enjoy football season this year! Learn healthy alternatives and recipes for your gatherings that will allow you to continue your journey but still have fun with friends. Plus, Dr. Jenny Wood will guide you through mindful eating practices and let you to put them to the test.

Go beyond your multivitamin intake and learn how different supplements support your health journey. We’ll help you choose what’s right for you.

Plus, Dr. Jenny Wood will discuss the risks of alcohol and its effect on the mind and body. We’ll also talk about ways to avoid usage problems.

Fueling for Exercise

This class will teach you how to focus on the proper fuel needed to train for long distance runs and walks, such as the annual Route 66 5K and relay event in November. This joint class is taught by a registered dietitian and our passionate and certified exercise specialist, Mo Smith.

Holiday Cooking

Learn how to make your favorite holiday dishes this year without sacrificing flavor! We will go over entrees, sides and desserts the whole family can enjoy without feeling deprived. Plus, Dr. Jenny Wood will discuss cognitive muscle building, and participants will learn practical strategies to increase control and reduce the amount of bites consumed when food cravings strike.
