As a nurse, Cindy Snook witnessed first-hand the impact COVID-19 had on patients. So, when she did test positive with the virus, Snook was thankful for a decision she had already made.
“You saw the virus and would see obese people not doing so well,” Snook said. “I thought this is not going to be good.”
Before the pandemic, Snook chose to have weight-loss surgery through Bailey Bariatrics. Her surgery was in May 2020, something she was glad to have done.
“It was the best thing I’ve ever done in my whole life,” Snook said.
While the surgery proved to benefit Snook’s recovery from the virus, it has also provided a series of positive changes in her health.
Before her weight-loss surgery, Snook used to take a break walking uphill from the parking lot at her work. She was also diagnosed as pre-diabetic and with sleep apnea and a cholesterol level around 300 mg/dL.
Following surgery, Snook can now easily make the walk to the front steps of work without stopping, and she participates in a regular workout routine with her husband. She is no longer a high-risk candidate for diabetes and her cholesterol lowered to normal levels.
And, most importantly, Snook has more energy to play with her grandson.
“Now I can keep up with him,” she said with a smile.
Snook said, “The way I look, in general, has surprised me. Even the people I’ve worked with for the last 15 years say I don’t look like the same person.”
Her self-esteem and mental outlook have improved as well since surgery, according to Snook.
She was first introduced to Bailey Bariatrics after a family member had weight-loss surgery 18 months earlier. Snook decided she would reach out to the Owasso-based facility as well.
“Bailey treats you like a person and not a patient,” she said. “Being in the medical field, I know what that’s like. And they did everything to make you feel right at home.”
