Erric Lane did not want to become a statistic, no matter the obstacles he had to face.
Heart disease and diabetes were common in Lane’s family history. His father died of heart disease at age 62. In addition to his genetic background, Lane has cerebral palsy, which limits the use of his legs.
At one time, he weighed more than 420 pounds and had a body mass index (BMI) of 58.
“I could barely get around,” Lane said. “My main mode of getting around the house was crawling. At my heaviest, I struggled to crawl.”
In March 2019, Lane decided he was not going to let those obstacles stop him and made his first appointment with Bailey Bariatrics. He opted for the metabolic management program, which is a non-surgical approach to weight loss. Lane made significant progress thanks to the variety of resources available at Bailey.
Since choosing Bailey Bariatrics, Lane performs workout routines that include lifting weights and 40-minute cardio sessions that consists of crawling on the floor. His resting heart rate, which was in the 90-plus beats per minute (bpm) prior to coming to Bailey, dropped to 55 bpm.
Lane now walks with the assistance of a walker. Previously, his mobilization required use of a wheelchair.
“I’m really excited about having control of my health again,” said Lane, who has lost more than 200 pounds since coming to Bailey. “If I can do it, other people can.”
He said he was thankful for the Bailey Bariatrics staff and the impact they have made on him.
“Everybody has been really helpful and pleased to see my progress,” Lane said. “I really appreciate them for everything they’ve done for me.”
