1-2 Weeks After

Soft/Pureed Proteins

1 Week after RNY Gastric Bypass Surgery

2 Weeks after Sleeve Gastrectomy Surgery


2-3 fluid oz. (4-6 tablespoons) of a pureed or soft high protein foods

Up to 3 servings per day


Dairy: low-fat cheese, low-fat cottage cheese, sugar-free yogurt, low-fat sugar-free pudding.

Egg or egg substitute: If you have heart disease, limit yolks to no more than 3 egg yolks

     per week.

Unsweetened hot cereals:   Thinned Malt-o-Meal, cream of rice, quick cook oatmeal.

      Avoid:    Coarse ground grits, steel cuts oats or large grain cereals.

                    These will expand in your pouch.

Beans/Peas: Fat-free or low fat refried beans, bean or pea soups (split pea, lentil, chick

      peas/garbanzo beans, black, navy, pinto) or plain cooked beans.  Chew these very well.  Other protein foods: tofu, peanut butter, egg salad or tuna salad made with low-fat mayo &

      served with crackers or crisp toast (white or light wheat, not multi-grain for now)


Continue using:

     8 fl oz protein shake daily between meals.
