Soft/Pureed Proteins
One Week after RNY Gastric Bypass Surgery
Two Weeks after Sleeve Gastrectomy Surgery or Duodenal Switch
Patients one to two weeks post-op can have 2-3 fluid ounces. (4-6 tablespoons) of pureed or soft high protein foods, up to three servings per day
Dairy:
Low-fat cheese, low-fat cottage cheese, sugar-free yogurt, low-fat sugar-free pudding or low sugar Greek yogurt.
Egg or egg substitute:
Scrambled, hard-boiled, poached or fried eggs with spray oil only. If you have heart disease, limit yolks to no more than three egg yolks per week.
Unsweetened hot cereals:
Thinned Malt-o-Meal, cream of rice, quick cook oatmeal
Avoid: Coarse ground grits, steel cut oats or large grain cereals. These will expand in your stomach.
Beans/Peas:
Fat-free or low-fat refried beans, bean or pea soups (split pea, lentil, chickpeas, garbanzo beans, black, navy, pinto) or plain cooked beans. Chew these very well.
Other Protein Foods:
Tofu, peanut butter, egg salad or tuna salad made with low-fat mayo and served with saltine or soda crackers or crisp toast (white or light wheat, not multi-grain for now, no seeds or large grain)
Continue using:
8 fluid ounce protein shake daily, between meals
